WCTA was founded in 1994 by Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang with the participation of his disciple Jan Silberstorff. The goal of he Association is to spread Chen family’s Taijiquan (tai chi chuan) of Chenjiagou, and the teaching is transmitted as directed by the Grandmaster.

WCTA has a presence in 35 countries, uniting hundreds of teachers and instructors, and thousands of students. It is possible to learn Chen style Taijiquan (tai chi chuan) in one country or city, and during a trip or after moving keep practicing in another place, and to be sure that the content of what one learns is the same.

The quality and the faithfull transmission of the teachings are assured by the regular visits of Chen family masters, who travel constantly to teach seminars. At the same time, the technical improvement of the student is assured by the presence of a certified teacher of a higher level: this extends up to the Grandmaster himself, who is the leader of the Association. The Association is then a link between the affiliated students and the Chen family masters.
